January 28, 1986

Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of Earth
And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings;
Sunward I've climbed, and joined the tumbling mirth
Of sun-split clouds, — and done a hundred things
You have not dreamed of — wheeled and soared and swung
High in the sunlit silence. Hov'ring there,
I've chased the shouting wind along, and flung
My eager craft through footless halls of air. . . .

Up, up the long, delirious burning blue
I've topped the wind-swept heights with easy grace
Where never lark, or ever eagle flew —
And, while with silent, lifting mind I've trod
The high untrespassed sanctity of space,
Put out my hand, and touched the face of God.

Modern Living

I'm inching closer to ditching cable and going online for my entertainment. I can no longer justify shelling out $100 a month for the perhaps 5 hours of tv a week that I find entertaining. I'll probably wind up with Netflix and a Roku box or something similar, and a hefty broadband connection. Even with the internet service and Netflix subscription, I'll be saving about $50 a month. Imagine being able to actually watch what I want instead of scrolling through several dozen channels of nothing, and settling on a 20 year old Star Trek rerun.
